SECTION 2: INTRODUCING YOURSELF
Before we begin with how to introduce ourselves, here is how we say hi & bye
in Bulgarian:

  • Hello (formal/plural) - Здравейте [Zdrahveyteh]
  • Hello (informal/singular) - Здравей  [Zdrahvey] OR Здрасти [Zdrahstee]
  • Bye (formal) - Довиждане [Dohvizhdahneh]
  • Bye (informal) - Чао [Chao] (as in the Italian ciao)

And here is how to introduce oneself:

  • Nice to meet you - Приятно ми е [Preeyatnoh mee eh]
  • I'm called ............. - Казвам се ................ [Kahzvahm seh ................]
  • My name is .................... - Името ми е .............. [Eemehtoh mee eh ....................]
  • I am ........................ -  Аз съм .................... [Az suhm .............................]
  • We are ....................... - Ние сме ............................... [ Nieh smeh .........................]

JOBS (MEN): Use the words below if referring to a man

  • teacher - учител
  • policeman - полицай
  • doctor - доктор OR лекар
  • businessman - бизнесмен
  • salesman - продавач
  • engineer - инжинер
  • accountant - счетоводител
  • writer - писател
  • painter - художник
JOBS (WOMEN): Use the words below if referring to a woman

  • teacher - учителка
  • policeman - полицайка
  • doctor - доктор OR лекарка
  • businessman - бизнесменка OR бизнес дама
  • salesman - продавачка
  • engineer - инжинер
  • accountant - счетоводителка
  • writer - писателка
  • painter - художничка
Notice something? Many of the women's jobs simply get a KA in the end of the men's jobs. For example,
teacher - учител (for a man); учителка (for a woman). There are, of course, some exceptions. Some foreign job
titles like engineer, doctor, etc. do not get a KA and remain unchanged both in their forms for men and women.
